The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu by an Act of State Legislature. It was inaugurated by His Excellency Thiru K.R. Narayanan, President of India on September 20th 1997. The University started functioning from 03.10.1997.The School of Excellence in Law is offering a five-year integrated Law Degree Course. On successful completion of the course, B.A.B.L.(Hons) Degree will be awarded.
Army Institute of Law
AIL, the learning process is interactive as well as participative. Open discussions are also part of classroom teaching. The regular classes are made more useful by follow-ups in the form of assignments, seminars and projects in the afternoon sessions. In terms of practical learning various Moot-court competitions are held within the institute and selected students are sent for national level Moot-court competitions. AIL organizes visits to District Courts, High Courts and also to Lok Adalats to acquaint the students with practical aspect of legal process and legal system.

In conceiving the future course of the University, the objectives enshrined in the Guru Nanak Dev University Act 1969, emphasised that the new University would make provision for imparting education and promoting research in the humanities, learned professions, sciences, especially of applied nature and technology.
Kerala Law Academy Law College, Thiruvananthapuram
The College is the first and the only law college in the private sector in the State. Started in 1967 as an evening college to impart instructior for LLB course, the college has over the years grown to become one of the premier law colleges in the state. It has made its mark in extra curricular activities as well. The college has been conducting an All India Moot Court Competition annually since 1990. It was the college team of the college which represented India in the Philip.C.Jessup International Moot Court Competition held at Washington DC in the years 1994, 1996 & 1997.
Govt. Law College, Thiruvananthapuram
One of the oldest institutions in the country imparting legal education, this college was started in 1875. The 2-year LLM course specializes in International Law and Constitutional Law. The college has a Centenary Men’s Hostel. The college celebrated its centenary in 1975 and the year 2000 was celebrated as post Centenary Silver Jubliee year.

National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS)
The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) has been established to be a national level institute of excellence in higher learning of law in the State of Kerala by the Government of Kerala by virtue of the Act 27 of 2005. The curriculum, teaching methods and examination system shall be quite unlike in any conventional colleges in the country. The Bar Council of India has recommended 37 subjects (including 4 training courses) for the 5 years LL.B Course.

University College of Law, Calcutta University
Throughout the first half of the nineteenth century the then British rulers of the country were coming to realize the need for establishing modern universities in India, partly in their own interests and partly as a result of the efforts of a small group of liberals within the ruling classes who genuinely wished to spread modern education among the Indian masses.In 1845, the Council of Education which then consisted of F.Millett, James Alexander, C.C.Egerton, Rassomay Dutt, Prosunno Coomar Tagore and Dr. FJ.Mouat formulated a proposal for the establishment of a University of Calcutta.
Surendra Nath Law College
In 1885 the Department of Law was started. It was converted into a separate College in 1911 and it was named as Ripon Law College. The Department of Commerce was established in 1940. A branch of this College was opened in Dinajpur (now a separate College in Bangladesh) in 1942. The trustees in order to keep pace with the changing needs of the time, opened an evening Science section in 1947 and a women’s section in 1948 as well.
