India Malaysia to work on partnership in education
Indian education minister Kapil Sibal said today that India's education system needs massive reforms. While not elaborating on the measures he is going to take, Mr. Sibal went on to compare the scale of reforms to those introduced in the Indian economy by the then Finance Minister Manmohan Singh in 1991.
Sibal also added that he is keen on letting foreign universities to setup base in India to avoid the exodus of students that were going offshore for higher education. He added that a decision would only be taken after a consensus of the government.
Malaysia is very keen to have Indian Universities setup base in the country and they want to have an over arching umbrella where the two countries can collaborate in area of human resource development. Sibal met malaysian education minister and indicated that his talks were exceptionally good and extremely positive. The two countries will setup a joint working group to discuss various options including distance learning, teacher development, technical education and vocational education. Distance education will focus on critical skills in the areas of Engineering and Medical courses.
