State Government Proposes to Reserve 90% Seats for SSC Students

Gerry Arathoon, spokesperson of the ICSE board is upset at the state government'S proposal to reserve 90% seats for SSC students in junior colleges.According to him this is an unfair and was not mentioned during the meeting that was conducted couple weeks ago in Maharashtra.Representatives of ICSE, SSC, IB and IGCSE attended ths meeting and there was no mention of 90% reservations for SSC students.

Suhas Pednekar, principal of Ramnarain Ruia College, Matunga, said, this as a short-term solution and the government needs to improve the standard of education offered in the state so that SSC students can compete on an equal footing with other boards.

D G Ruparel College principal Pradeep Kulkarni pointed out that SSC students with fewer marks can beat the ICSE and CBSE students with high scores a seat in a good college due to the this unfair proposal recommended.

A year ago the government proposed a 'Percentile formula' to normalise the marks scored by students from various boards to help SSC students who scored less marks. when the percentile formula was announced, number of ICSE AND CBSE students admitted in the Ruparel College dropped to about 30% compared to 60%-70% last before year. The government was taken to court by the ICSE board members and students and High court cancelled the Percentiles.
